A group of students recently visited Capel Manor College’s Mottingham campus to gain first-hand insight into further education opportunities and explore potential next steps after school.
Capel Manor College is a specialist further education provider, well known for its land-based and environmental courses, including horticulture, animal care, floristry and conservation. The Mottingham campus offers a supportive learning environment designed to combine practical, hands-on experience with classroom-based study.
During the visit, students were welcomed by college staff and given an informative introduction to the range of courses on offer, entry requirements, and progression routes. They learned how Capel Manor supports students in developing both academic knowledge and employability skills, preparing them for further study, apprenticeships or careers in specialist industries.
Students were also given a tour of the campus facilities, allowing them to see learning spaces, specialist resources, and outdoor areas used as part of everyday teaching. This provided a valuable opportunity to understand how lessons are structured and how practical learning is embedded into an average day at the college.
In addition, staff explained what a typical day at Capel Manor College looks like, including timetables, expectations, and student support. This helped students build a realistic picture of college life and consider whether the learning style and environment would suit their interests and goals.
The visit encouraged students to ask questions, reflect on their own strengths and think carefully about their future options. By experiencing the college setting first-hand, students are able to make more informed and confident decisions about their next steps in education.
Overall, the trip was a valuable experience, giving students greater clarity about post-16 pathways and highlighting the wide range of opportunities available at Capel Manor College Mottingham.
