Two Newhaven students recently received awards in the 2024 “Do the Right Thing” Greenwich Young Citizen of the Year Awards.
Recognised in the category “Inspiring Others”, Riley leaves Kings Park on an all-time high! He has secured a placement in a Motor Mechanics Apprenticeship Programme, reflecting his remarkable progress over the last 6 years with us.
Riley’s success stems from consistent support, which helped reduce his anxiety, improve his communication and academic skills, and foster positive behaviour both at home and school. Through the school’s dedicated approach, and his own commitment to engaging with bespoke interventions and curriculum, Riley’s unique needs were addressed and he overcame significant barriers to education. He truly is an inspiration to others!
Riley’s advice to other students is, “Don’t beat yourself up about small mistakes. They (staff) won’t hold it against you. Just work with them. Find someone to talk to and they will help you fix it.”
Tumise received an award in the “Progress in Education” category. After being referred to Newhaven in November 2023, Tumise consistently showed himself to be a hard-working and dedicated student. He had to settle in to a new environment, make new friends and build trusting relationships in a crucial year of his education. He made the most of every opportunity and studied hard for his GCSEs. Tumise also recently achieved his L3 National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, particularly impressive as he had to do additional hours to perfect his swimming skills to achieve this. We are very proud of all he has achieved at Newhaven.
