On Tuesday 9th July, Newhaven was visited by three members of the Hong Kong Educational Psychology Service.
Molly Mok, Skyler Chang and Flora Lo were in London on a research mission as they look to develop provision for young people with autism in their home city. They were particularly interested in our trauma informed practice, identified us from the Trauma Informed Schools website and contacted headteacher Jon Kelly to arrange the visit.
During the day, they met with school leaders, middle leaders and students and left impressed with what we have on offer here. They also brought the lovely gifts of two books for our library which will help our students who are interested in all things Chinese and a Hong Kong branded ornament. We ended the day with a plan to strengthen school links with Hong Kong schools.
Our Trauma Informed Schools UK assessor judged that:
“The school has a well embedded philosophy that understands and promotes the value of positive relationships and the development of a culture that is safe, warm and caring. Students and staff all commented on the importance of these relationships and the way in which they feel supported, listened to and cared for. Staff know the children well and are able to relate to them as they understand some of the challenges and complex issues they are facing.” – TISUK Assessor
