Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: National Education Union Strike Action
As you may have seen in the media, the National Education Union are out on strike next Wednesday 1st February 2023. This will have a serious impact on the running of the school as we have a number of teachers out on strike and a number of staff who have been notified that their children’s schools will be closed meaning they will be off work due to childcare issues. This means that for a large number of students, their key people will not be in school and it will be very difficult to staff the classes we have. I have therefore taken the decision to close the school on Wednesday for everyone except students for whom there would be a severe impact on their mental health or general wellbeing if they don’t attend. Tutors and mentors will call you during the next couple of days to discuss if this applies to your child and discuss provision for students to complete an hour or two of work online during the day. When I have a clear idea of numbers I will review the situation to see what we can offer and update you further.
The full list of strike days is as follows:
- Wednesday 1st February 2023
- Thursday 2nd March 2023
- Wednesday 15th March 2023
- Thursday 16th March 2023
After next Wednesday, I will review the situation and plan for the next strike days – always with the aim of providing as much education for your child as possible. I apologise for any inconvenience or worries this will cause you but please get in touch to discuss anything you need to.
Yours faithfully
Jon Kelly (Head teacher)
