LSO Concert Trip, Friday 28 November

Our Year 11 NEST students and a group from Kings Park spent a lively Friday morning at LSO St Luke’s for a relaxed classical concert led by recent graduates of the LSO Pathways programme, joined by LSO Second Violin Bindi McFarlane.

The atmosphere was warm and informal, which suited the mixed needs of our group and gave students the chance to experience orchestral music up close, without the usual pressure of a traditional concert hall.

The players talked through each piece, introduced their instruments, and encouraged the audience to listen for patterns, textures and moods. This helped our students follow the music with far more confidence than they expected. Many said it was the first time they had heard chamber music live, and they left with a clearer sense of how a small ensemble can create such a rich sound. Even those who needed to step out briefly still came away talking about their favourite moments, which shows how well the relaxed format supported them.

Travel, timing and supervision all ran smoothly. The venue was safe, welcoming and easy to navigate, with staff on hand to help whenever needed. Our students handled the day with maturity and curiosity, and it was encouraging to see how much they gained from the experience.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with the London Symphony Orchestra in the next academic year and exploring more opportunities for our young people to engage with world class music.
