A group of our students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Halfords Auto Centre, where they explored the world of automotive apprenticeships and got hands-on experience in a professional garage setting.
The trip was designed to give students a real insight into the motor industry, from the day-to-day work of a technician to the various pathways available through apprenticeships.
During the visit, students learned about the structure and benefits of automotive apprenticeships, including the opportunity to earn while learning, gain recognised qualifications, and build a solid career in a growing sector. Staff from Halfords gave an informative talk about the different roles available within the company and what employers are looking for in future apprentices.
The highlight of the trip was stepping into the workshop, where students got involved in some basic diagnostic testing and vehicle checks under the guidance of experienced mechanics. This hands-on experience was invaluable in bringing the theory to life and sparked real interest among students considering a technical or vocational career.
Trips like these are a key part of our careers programme, helping students make informed decisions about their futures and showing them the many routes to success beyond traditional academic paths.
