Work Experience

Work experience plays a key role in our sixth form offer, giving students one day per week for the whole academic year, to gain first-hand experience within the working world.

We believe that work experience is a crucial step in preparing students for their future career/studies and supports students in a range of ways:

  • Skill Development – supporting students to develop practical skills that are valuable in the work place, such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving
  • Career Exploration – giving students the opportunity to explore different industries and roles to make educated decisions for their future
  • Employability – having work experience makes students more attractive to future employers or universities, showing initiative, commitment and personal development
  • Real World Application – providing opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real-world context, making learning more relevant and engaging
  • Confidence Building – gaining experience within a work environment boosts student’s confidence to approach and navigate future professional situations
  • Understanding the Workplace – familiarizing students with workplace expectations and professionalism

Our 6th form student’s complete work experience placements in a range of different industries and job roles, from Mechanics to Chefs and Nursery Assistants to Stable Hands.
We have had real successes in students’ personal progression following work experience, in addition to students being offered apprenticeships post-placement.

We also offer group work place visits and have had the opportunity to visit some amazing companies like The Financial Times, Big Yellow Storage and British Red Cross HQ, to find out about the various job roles within the company and speak to employee’s first-hand.
