Creative Overview:
The aim of Creative at Newhaven King’s Park Campus is to allow ours students the space to grow creatively and explore their interests in a variety of materials. In the Kings Park sixth form we hope to foster students to learn independently and Creative is the ideal subject for students to try this.
So our students can develop independence we deliver all our lessons via google classroom so that students can access their work both in and out of the classroom. Students are encouraged to focus on a subject that interest them so that they can take real ownership over the project.
Our curriculum offers a range of units covering multiple disciplines including photography, clay and painting, and all students will be expected to research their chosen artist, respond to their researched artwork and contribute to the planning and staging of an end of year show.
Intent – why are we doing it?
We encourage our students to create a love of learning and to follow their own interests. Creative gives students the opportunity to practice at being real practitioners and lets students discover how people can make a living through the creative industries.
Creative means that students will have to conduct independent research and then use this to inform their own ideas and creations. A skill that is transferable to any further education qualification.
In unit one students will be initially expected to conduct independent research into their artists of choice this could also include photographers fashion designers jewellery makers and ceramicists. Students will then have to make personal responses to their research in the art form of their choice. Once students have researched and responded to artists and artworks they will go on to focus their learning in a specific area such as Photoshop or ceramics, to complete unit two.
Over the course of the year students will have a variety of opportunities to encounter art in the real world and make artworks through using different materials. At the end of the year students will be encouraged to participate in the planning and staging of an exhibition of friends’ family and others people with our school community for their unit three. The intention of the creative laser qualification is to gain nine points across three units to contribute towards their overall diploma.

Impact:
Students will be able to hone their independent learning skills in such a way that prepares them for further education and embeds the love of learning through the research of their chosen interests. We will create a platform for students to discuss their artworks and share their ideas through formal and informal critique. Students will both self-assess and peer assess giving them the skills to work alongside other young people in either further education or a place of work.
Students will build confidence through the planning and realization of ambitious creative projects that they can share with the wider school community. Our students will feel a sense of pride and purpose in their work and this will be celebrated across the curriculum through the laser qualification
