On Friday 24th January a group of 10 Newhaven students began a three day project with the VIY to renovate Plumstead working Men’s Club.
VIY are a charity that work with young people to support them to learn trade and employability skills by helping to fix local community spaces and places in need of essential repairs and improvements. VIY provide an opportunity for students to gain work experience and Entry Level City & Guilds qualifications.
Over the three days, students took on renovating several areas of the club; prepping, painting, sanding, cleaning and using a variety of different tools. Students also sat an assessment day where the skills that they had learnt were assessed via both practical and written assessments to award them an Entry Level City & Guilds in Painting & Decorating.
It was great to see all of the students really get stuck in and be a part of a local project!
