On Tuesday the 14th of January the Foundation students were invited by Greenwich Council to visit the Royal observatory Greenwich in response to their superb participation in the ACE groups.
Last year our students helped Greenwich Council create an autism friendly manual for people supporting students with SEND. Subsequently, Maddy from the Royal Observatory invited our students from Kings Park to watch the planetarium show about skies above us, in order to find out how they could improve the experience for SEND children. The museum asked students to participate in a range of workshops that explored different aspects of the planetarium experience. Our students were able to give their input through visual, sensory and verbal based activities.
The foundation students of Kings Park made Newhaven proud with their fantastic ideas and their creative input. The ideas and their responses will directly impact how the museum evolves in the future. Our Student Voice Members represented the school especially well by verbalising to the museum how they could best improve the overall experience from the perspective of autistic young people.
The Museum and the borough was so impressed without students that each person who participated received 15 pounds in Book Tokens to be donated to the school library at Kings Park and the cost of the taxi fares were covered. Student Voice will be able to help our Librarian Carole choose how the money is spent and what books they would like to see added to our collection.
