A group of Year 10s ventured up to Southwark on Wednesday the 20th of November for a visit to the infamous Clink Prison Museum.
We were guided through the dark and dank tunnels of the prison which dates back to 1144, making it one of England’s oldest prisons.
Students had the opportunity to view archaeological artefacts, handle torture devices and hear all about the tales of tales of torment and the many misfortunes of the inmates who had spent time there.
On our way back to the station, we also had the chance to see the The Golden Hinde and Southwark Cathedral, before braving the cold outside the Hay’s Galleria with some hot burgers and chips from McDonald’s.
The themes of incarceration, criminality and rebellion are explored in the text the Year 10s are currently studying, The Outsiders, and it was interesting to reflect on how the criminal justice system has evolved over time.
