Intent Implementation Impact

Overview:

The laser business studies are to act as a bridge between students’ studies and the real world. Hopefully, all KP 6th form students will eventually find employment and become part of an organisation; this subject equips them with an understanding of how organisations function, providing them with a competitive edge when they enter the workforce. This is achieved through the teaching of the curriculum in the context of businesses in the local area, nationally and internationally. Links to real-life businesses give students a portal into the world of business. Developing students’ knowledge and analytical and evaluative skills that can be used in all their studies. Students are introduced to basic business terms and theory. Group work allows students to develop their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Use of ICT in business to create income and expenditure accounts and personal budgets will equip students with the ICT knowhow they will need in a business setting.

Intent – why are we doing it?

As part of the sixth form improvement plan, the Newhaven sixth form curriculum has been created to equip the students with skills, knowledge, and independence they need in life. In doing so, we have taken into consideration the specific needs and interests of each student. We promote person-centred learning at Newhaven, so in Business, one of the units we will be exploring is how a student can undertake an enterprise project. The students will be their own boss, giving them the independence they need in life. Students will choose any entrepreneurship project they are interested in to showcase their talent and skills.

Implementation:

Implementation of this course has been fairly considered by taking into account the needs of students. Through the course of the year, students will be given the opportunity to make products of their choice and market them. There will be market sales in school where students will be selling their products. Skills will cover a vast range from market research, to manufacturing to sales and profit analysis. This will count towards their assessment process. Students will get the opportunity to visit different companies and organisations to find out how companies operate.

Impact:

The enterprise project will help students to be independent, and the market stall will help students to improve on their communication skills and how to work together as a team. The personal budgeting unit will help students take control of their finances.
