One of the best things about being a headteacher is when ex-students make contact to tell me about how they’re doing.
I got this great email from Ellie Smith last week. Ellie was one of the first cohort to attend King’s Park and started even before the current building was finished.
Please also look out for a section on the website telling the stories of how a range of students are doing now. It’s coming soon!
Hi Mr Kelly,
I hope you’re well!
I just wanted to send an email to express my gratitude for all the support I received from yourself and all the staff at King’s Park over the duration of my time there. I thought I would send an update as I have just graduated from Birmingham City University with a first-class degree in Criminology! An achievement I don’t believe I would have been able to obtain without my time at King’s Park. Being able to sit my A Levels within such a supportive environment, and be provided with understanding and patience with my GAD truly made all the difference in being able to obtain the two A Levels required to progress onto university. Education was always a struggle for me as a teenager, so to be able to say that I have achieved a first at university is something I am really proud of and grateful for.
Now that I’ve graduated, I’m currently considering my next steps. I think that my time at King’s Park has really opened my eyes to the importance of supporting those struggling with the same things that I did and driven my ambition to work for the charity sector. Alternatively, I am also considering potentially getting into teaching, ideally within the non-mainstream education sector as having personal experience at Kings Park, I really appreciate what an important and rewarding job it must be. If there is ever a way that I can support or give back to King’s Park (or Newhaven generally) in the future, please let me know! I would love to contribute in any way to helping those in a similar situation to mine.
Thanks for everything!
Best wishes,
Ellie Smith
