Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a really productive term at Newhaven and I can’t believe its coming to an end so quickly. As I write this the mocks have nearly finished and I have to say that the attitude and approach of our year 11s and 6th formers has been excellent and bodes well for the real exams next term.
Our careers education programme continues to grow with activities this term including the AHOY centre where students learn to drive boats on the river, as well as other skills, and trips to Ravensbourne University, the British Academy of Jewellery and others. In school we have had DJ workshops and a first aid course. Next week is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) week where students will take part in a range of activities to promote these subjects and possible careers in them. They have already enjoyed watching chickens hatch in the Science Department as part of this.
We have also continued to promote healthy lifestyles through Food and Sport with extra out of school activities including football tournaments, BMX and swimming lessons. In school the school council has been active and have driven changes to the school menu as well as improvements in equipment around the place. World Book Day was a chance to celebrate our programmes to promote a love of reading across the school and the successes in this area for may of our students.
Like all good things, however, this term must come to an end. The dates and times for this and the start of next term are below:
End of term: Thursday 28th at midday.
INSET Day: Monday 15th April (no students in school)
Start of Summer Term: Tuesday 16th April (students return to school from 9am)
Eid Mubarak, Happy Easter and Chag Purim Sameach to any and all of our families celebrating over the holidays.
Yours faithfully
Jon Kelly
