Dear Parents,
Re: End of this term and start of next term and GCSE results day
Hope you are enjoying the weather? We are rapidly coming to the end of a busy year. I am emailing you to confirm the details for the end of this term and the start of the Summer term and also to let you know about a couple of things over the holiday. It’s been a busy and productive year at Newhaven and I’d like to take this opportunity of thanking the staff for you for all of their efforts. We’ve had more difficult times with staff shortages due to Covid but have worked through it. One of the highlights of the for me was the excellent attitude and approach of our year 11s and 6th formers to the first public exams we had for 3 years. Well done all.
I am always sad to say that we have some excellent staff leaving but pleased to say we have also managed to recruit some excellent staff. Michelle Wilkes is leaving after a long time and will be sorely missed by staff and pupils alike. She has successfully fulfilled several roles at the PRU, finishing as the successful head of campus at Newhaven Gardens. Lucy Mcleod and Holly Owens are leaving from King’s Park to go on to new challenges. I’d like to thank them for all their hard work whilst at Newhaven. I am pleased to say that Amanda Steencamp has been promoted to the leadership team from her head of maths role and we are also being joined by a new Assistant Head, Amanda Hughes. We also have Stephanie Johnstone joining as a Humanities teacher at King’s Park and I’m really happy to welcome back Jo Lewis.
Term ends this Friday 22nd at 12.10 pm. Work will continue in school this week but we also have a number of activities such as a fossiling trip, an environmental trip and a football tournament (when it cools down a bit). You will have heard about these separately if your child is involved.
GCSE Results day is 25th August. You will be able to collect your child’s GCSE results from our Newhaven Gardens Campus (SE9 6HR) between 10am and 12pm on Thursday 25th August. Paige Crosby, our careers education lead will be in school to help with the enrolment process at college if you need it.
Next term starts for students with a review meeting on Monday 5th September, tutors and mentors will be in touch to organise a time for this over the next few days. We find that these meetings are really important to help your child start off the year in a positive way so please attend. School will start normally for all students from Tuesday September 6th. Staff will be in school for training days on the 1st and 2nd September so you can call if you need help with anything.
I have attached some information about free and cheap meals for children over the Summer as I am very aware that times are hard at the moment. You can find more information about free food and Summer activities on this link. Please take advantage of these as much as you can.
Finally, if I don’t speak to you again before we break up on Friday, I hope you have a restful Summer break and that everyone is relaxed and ready to go in September.
Yours faithfully,
Jon Kelly
